Anna in Miss Dunedin: Children's Book Illustration

Meet Anna Kerr! A young girl from Dunedin that lost her hair because of Alopecia. Join her journey to understand that different still means beautiful.

The author Ahana Kumar was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis at the age of 14. She searched for books, characters and/or people to draw inspiration from. By writing Anna in Dunedin, she hopes to inspire children to never be afraid of being themselves. Representing them was paramount for her while writing Anna in Dunedin.

A 20 page back to front illustrated book with layout design this project was detailed and fruitful at the same time. Working with a delicate concept of representation meant learning to creative expressive characters without something as simple as eyebrows to show sadness or amazement. With its own set of learning curves illustrating the book was a dream project as an illustrator that I was eager to take on.
