The company Carousel was founded in 2013, the idea behind Carousel was simple; to create a beautiful space in the form of an art cafe with cozy interiors, warm lights, freshly brewed coffee and happy people. A place where pretty home decor products would come to life.

Carousel had just partnered with its first retail outlet-partner , Qirq Station, to start selling their products. They were looking for an effective packaging solution that would be budget friendly, stand out and could quickly be brought into production.

Carousel had just partnered with its first retail outlet-partner , Qirq Station, to start selling their products. They were looking for an effective packaging solution that would be budget friendly, stand out and could quickly be brought into production.


Bright & Early Journal

The intent behind the conceptualisation of the Bright & Early Journal was for the user to be able to focus on what was important to them and to be able to prioritise their time for the things they would like to focus on. It was about the user being mindful of their time and how they chose to spend their day. This 6-month journal is designed to help keep one's priorities in clear view, silence the overwhelm of to-do lists and create a balance between work and personal wellbeing.

The journal is broken down into separate categories such as a daily task and wellness tracker, a weekly review and habit tracker and a monthly check-in segment. This is all tied together with ample space to make the journal your own with the notes area provided in the journal.
The design language for the journal was to keep it minimal, effortless, classic and timeless. While we wanted the journal to be impactful it was critical to be mindful that less is more.



The key deliverables with this project were:

1. Working on the overall brand language that of the company Brightside and its previous products while providing Bright & Early Journal its own identity.
​
2. With branding came the development of the font choices, spacing and most importantly brand motif i.e the sun that is seen on the spine of the journal as well as at the bottom of every quote page.
​
3. Since printing was to be done in black and white, the opacity of black was played with throughout the document to indicate points where we wanted to call attention to while other sections being lighter in print.
​
4. Formatting close to a 300 page document in 1 month.
